The Seattle Seahawks-Detroit Lions matchup wasn’t exactly the most intriguing game in the Week 4 early afternoon slate, but it certainly turned out to be the most action-packed (and high scoring, for that matter).
Seattle narrowly outlasted the home team with a thrilling 48-45 victory. The two teams combined for a whopping 93 points and 1,075 yards of offense. Geno Smith (320) and Jared Goff (378) both threw for over 300 yards, and they combined for six touchdown passes.
Here’s another cool history-making tidbit: The 48-45 final is also an NFL first, as noted by the NFL Scorigami Twitter account:
It’s very rare for two teams to put up 40-plus points in an NFL game, so it’s not all that surprising that Scorigami was achieved this afternoon. A pair of Lions two-point conversions were key in helping Dan Campbell’s squad get to that (rare) total of 45 points.
Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny seemingly put the game away with a 41-yard touchdown run ahead of the two-minute warning. Goff found Justin Jackson for a two-yard touchdown to cut Seattle’s lead to one possession.
However, Seattle recovered the onside kick and put the game away on three consecutive runs from Penny; the last being a seven-yard run on 3rd-and-5 to seal the deal.

It’s rather admirable that the Lions managed to put up 45 points despite being without two of their top weapons in running back in D’Andre Swift and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The victory moved Pete Carroll’s Seahawks to 2-2 on the year, while the Lions fell to 1-3 following yet another tough one-score loss. Seattle will try to get back to above .500 when they visit the 1-3 New Orleans Saints, while the Lions will make a trek to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots.
