Recent social activity from the Seattle Seahawks, coupled with words from head coach Pete Carroll, interestingly suggest that that the team may not be fully committed to quarterback Geno Smith long-term.
On Mar. 6, it was announced that Smith and the Seahawks agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $105 million. But are they actually keen on keeping him around as the starter long-term?
As noted by Dov Kleiman, the Seahawks have been uploading selfies on social media of Carroll and other team staffers meeting with top NFL draft prospects in C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, Will Levis and Anthony Richardson:
Not only that, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared this quote from Carroll on the Seahawks looking at quarterbacks in the upcoming draft:
“I told Geno what we were doing. We talked beforehand. He knows what’s going on…He was great about it. He gets it. He’s been around the game…What he will do is he’ll help him. He’s already stated that.”
The Seahawks hold the No. 5 and No. 20 selections in the draft, so they’re in good position to come away with one of the “big four” QB prospects in Stroud, Young, Levis or Richardson.

The Carolina Panthers traded up via the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 pick and are widely expected to take either Stroud or Young. With the No. 2 selection, the Houston Texans will presumably take who remains between those two.
But of course, the Seahawks can also keep it simple and commit to the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year. Smith had a career year in which he completed 69.8 percent of his pass attempts for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions.
Smith helped the Seahawks to an unexpected postseason appearance in year one of the post-Russell Wilson era. They were eliminated by the rival San Francisco 49ers in the Wild Card Round by a final score of 43-21.
