The Seattle Seahawks have provided a concerning injury update on starting quarterback Geno Smith ahead of tomorrow’s pivotal clash against the archrival San Francisco 49ers.
Per ESPN’s Brady Henderson, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announced that Smith “tweaked his groin a little bit” in Thursday’s practice. It’s still unclear if the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year will play Sunday.
With Smith’s status uncertain, the team promoted Sean Mannion from their practice squad, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. If Smith can’t go, second-stringer Drew Lock will likely get the start for Seattle.
Losers of three straight, the 6-6 Seahawks desperately need a win against the 49ers to avoid falling below .500. Seattle is tied with the Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings for the NFC’s final two wild card spots.
The 33-year-old Smith has completed 64.4 percent of his pass attempts this season for 2,918 yards and 15 touchdowns against nine interceptions.
