Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt botched the name of New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson while speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s matchup.
The Seahawks will try to keep their slim playoff hopes alive when they host the slumping Jets at Lumen Field this Sunday. One of the key matchups to watch in that game? Seahawks rookie star corner Tariq Woolen vs. another rookie standout in Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
When a reporter asked Hurtt a question about Woolen, Hurtt said “He’s gotta cover, you know, Chris Garrett, Corey Davis and the rest of these guys…” Of course, the Jets don’t have a player on the team named “Chris Garrett.”
Hurtt was obviously talking about Wilson. Perhaps he was getting Wilson mixed up with New Orleans Saints rookie wideout Chris Olave, who played with Wilson at Ohio State.
The Jets used their second 2022 first-round pick on Wilson, taking him 10th overall with the selection that fittingly came courtesy of Seattle in the 2020 Jamal Adams blockbuster trade. The 22-year-old is in the conversation for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, with 71 catches for 996 yards and four touchdowns through 16 weeks.
New York was sitting comfortably in the playoff race with a 7-4 record just a month ago, but a four-game losing streak has their season on the ropes. The Jets need to win out and get some help if they’re to end the NFL’s longest active playoff drought (12 years and counting).

Seattle started out 6-3, but they have since dropped five of their last six games. The Seahawks also need a win and plenty of help if they’re to avoid missing the postseason in consecutive years for the first time since Pete Carroll became head coach in 2010.
Kickoff for the Jets-Seahawks game is set for 4:05 p.m. EST.
