After failing to land Odell Beckham Jr. for the New York Jets, Sauce Gardner has moved on to the next wide receiver on the market in DeAndre Hopkins.
The cornerback has been trying to lure some of the best NFL players to New York, having made a plea to Aaron Rodgers and revealing talks with OBJ. If it were up to Rodgers, he would be a Jet by now. But the Green Bay Packers are holding up the deal with what many consider to be an unreasonable asking price.
Beckham, on the other hand, will be plying his trade in Baltimore, having announced an agreement over a one-year deal with the Ravens.
Hopkins is one of the top remaining WRs on the market as the Arizona Cardinals are keen on trading him, and it appears Gardner is looking for them to team up next season.
On Wednesday, BroBible’s Dov Kleiman put out a tweet based on a report from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer noting that the Jets would be willing to trade for Hopkins if he’s willing to “work with them on the money.”
While Breer didn’t claim to have any sources and was merely speculating, Gardner responded to the tweet with claims that he had a “great talk” with the receiver last week.

Of course, the response has set Twitter alight, though some fans reminded the CB of the fact that he fumbled OBJ.
While Hopkins is still among the top pass-catchers in the NFL, he is due $15 million in 2023 and $19 million in 2024, while he’s a few months older than Beckham and has had injury issues too. Given that the Jets did not want to pay the new Ravens receiver $15 million, it’s unlikely they’ll want to pay the sum to Hopkins.
