After being injured during their last contest on Sunday, there was no way Saquon Barkley would be suiting up for the New York Giants for Thursday Night Football.
Earlier this week, it was reported Barkley is looking at a three-week absence after spraining his ankle in the Week 2 win against the Cardinals.
Adam Schefter mentioned Barkley avoided a high ankle sprain
During Thursday Night Football, reporter Taylor Rooks confirmed that it was a high ankle sprain for Barkley.
Rooks adds that Barkley’s sprain is “not as severe as it could’ve been.” The reason he’s sitting out, he said, is a pain tolerance issue after being injured four days ago.
“He did say the good news is their next game is on a Monday night, which gives him 11 more days to recover,” Rooks added. “He’s not making any guarantees, but he’s happy it gives him more time to be the Saquon the team needs and that he always aims to be.”

Barkley suffered a high ankle sprain to his right ankle against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5 of the 2021 season, and this is the same ankle he injured in Arizona on Sunday. Back then, he missed four games and had the team’s bye week to rehab the ankle before he came back in Week 11.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Barkley had 29 carries for 114 yards and a touchdown in the first two games of the season.
He also had nine catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.
