The San Francisco 49ers have given a brutal injury update on superstar safety Talanoa Hufanga.
Per Jake Hutchinson of KNBR, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Hufanga likely suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Sunday’s 27-14 home win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hufanga suffered a knee injury in the third quarter and did not return. Unfortunately, the 49ers’ worst fears on his status appear to have come true.
A key part of the 49ers’ elite defense, Hufanga earned Pro Bowl and First-team All-Pro nods in his sophomore 2022 season. He had three interceptions, three pass defenses and 51 combined tackles in nine games coming into Sunday’s contest.
