On Friday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced some major news that hurt the team going forward.
Shanahan announced that cornerback Jason Verrett suffered a rotator cuff injury that will require surgery, effectively ending his season and short stint with the 49ers.
The veteran corner suffered the injury in Thursday’s practice in preparation for the team’s Week 18 game vs the Rams. He was expected to see a ton of playing time.
This really sucks for him as Verrett was signed to the 49ers practice squad on December 11th.
Verrett will undergo surgery with a four- to six-month recovery period.
The 2023 comeback for Verrett lasted all of five snaps as they all came after halftime in the 49ers’ Christmas night loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The 32-year-old was expected to be a factor in the postseason.
This is another in a long list of injury problems for Verrett, who has played more than six games only twice in his career.
Just since joining the 49ers he’s suffered ACL, Achilles, and now shoulder injuries.
