No NFL team has had worse injury luck with their starting quarterbacks this season than the San Francisco 49ers… And yet, the Niners still find themselves playing in today’s NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Niners lost Trey Lance to a season-ending injury in week 2. Then it was Jimmy Garoppolo going down just past the midway point in the season.
At that point, most people began writing the 49ers off, but all they’ve done ever since is go undefeated with seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy under center. Unfortunately, he too has been hit by the injury bug, injuring his shoulder during today’s NFC Title Game at the Linc.
That leaves the Niners with fourth-stringer Josh Johnson at quarterback for at least the rest of this game. And if he were to get hurt, you won’t believe who would be next in line to take snaps at quarterback for San Fran.
Following Purdy’s injury, ESPN informed fans that the Niners’ emergency quarterback for today is none other than fullback Kyle Juszczyk.
