The San Francisco 49ers have emerged as one of the main betting favorites to land quarterback Aaron Rodgers if he departs this offseason.
After the New York Jets’ miserable 2024 season ended, Aaron Rodgers made it clear that his future with the team will largely depend on the new head coach and general manager. Former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was hired as the new HC, with ex-Denver Broncos scout Darren Mougey taking over as the new GM.
With Rodgers returning from a season-ending Achilles tear he suffered in Week 1 of the 2023 campaign, New York entered 2024 with high expectations. But they somehow finished worse than the 2022 and 2023 groups, which went 7-10, ending the year with an embarrassing 5-12 record.
The latest betting odds at Odds Shark list the 49ers as the third likeliest landing spot (+400) for Aaron Rodgers if he doesn’t return to the Jets. The Las Vegas Raiders have the best odds at +200, followed by the Pittsburgh Steelers at +300.

The 49ers were said to be on Rodgers’ wish list (along with the Raiders and Broncos) when he sought a trade out of Green Bay in 2021. That obviously never materialized, and the rise of Brock Purdy on the West Coast put a lid on the rumors of Rodgers playing for his childhood team.
49ers Don’t Need Aaron Rodgers
Purdy is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and there aren’t any hints that the 49ers want to replace him behind center.

Purdy is also 16 years younger than the four-time MVP, so it’s hard to make a case that the 49ers would be better off bringing in the latter as their new starter. Rodgers probably has no more than two seasons left, whereas Purdy is just entering his prime years.
