San Francisco 49ers superstar running back Christian McCaffrey has been added to the injury report ahead of Monday night’s season opener vs. the New York Jets.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 49ers have listed Christian McCaffrey on the injury report as having a calf/Achilles injury. The team kicks off their season at Levi’s Stadium against old friend Aaron Rodgers and the Jets on Monday at 8:15 p.m. EST.
If McCaffrey is unable to suit up, head coach Kyle Shanahan would presumably give 25-year-old Jordan Mason the starting RB1 duties. The former Georgia Tech standout has 464 rushing yards and four touchdowns over his first two NFL seasons.
Christian McCaffrey led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards en route to his first Offensive Player of the Year award last season. Run CMC also had 14 rushing touchdowns to go along with 67 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns.
McCaffrey’s 49ers reached Super Bowl 58, narrowly falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. The 49ers are aiming to follow the footsteps of the 2018 New England Patriots, who won Super Bowl 53 a year after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the big game.

Christian McCaffrey Is The Engine Of 49ers’ Offense
The 49ers have three other superstar weapons in wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle. But their offense has reached another stratosphere since they acquired McCaffrey in a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers during the 2022 season.
McCaffrey is on a Hall of Fame trajectory, and the only thing missing now is a Super Bowl championship ring. Having lost two Super Bowls and a pair of NFC Championship Games over the last five years, perhaps the 49ers are finally due for a big break in the postseason.
