The San Francisco 49ers received excellent news about star wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who was hospitalized with pneumonia.
Before Sunday’s Week 7 home game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Deebo Samuel was listed as questionable with an unspecified illness. He had to leave the game early and did not return, and the 49ers subsequently announced on Monday that the All-Pro wideout was in the hospital with pneumonia.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Samuel was released from the hospital today. The 49ers host the Dallas Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football” at Levi’s Stadium this week, and it’s unknown if he’ll play.
The Deebo Samuel news is a welcoming development for the 49ers, who have been ravaged by injuries this season. All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk suffered a season-ending ACL tear against the Chiefs, and superstar running back Christian McCaffrey still hasn’t played this season because of Achilles tendonitis.
On top of that, All-Pro tight end George Kittle is dealing with a sprained foot. If Kittle, Samuel and McCaffrey all miss Sunday’s game, that means the 49ers must field an offense without their four superstar offensive weapons.

Through six games this season, Deebo Samuel has 20 receptions for 335 yards, one touchdowns, 51 rushing yards and a rushing score. The 28-year-old has put up over 800 yards of offense in each of the last three seasons.
49ers Need Deebo Samuel & Jauan Jennings Down The Stretch
With Aiyuk out for the season, the 49ers offense will lean plenty more on the WR tandem of Samuel and Jauan Jennings. The latter is enjoying a breakout year with 25 receptions for 404 yards and three touchdowns.
Losing Aiyuk for the season is a brutal blow, but the 49ers can still get by with an offense featuring Jennings, Samuel, Kittle and a healthy McCaffrey. But if the 49ers lose to Dallas on Sunday, their playoff hopes will be on thin ice with a 3-5 record.
