San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy wasn’t expected to play this season after being selected with the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo forced Purdy into action and he took full advantage of it on Sunday.
In his first NFL start, Purdy would have to take down Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he did so with ease. Purdy led the 49ers to a 35-7 blowout win over Brady and the Buccaneers in Week 14.
It was so bad that the young son of ESPN commentator Samantha Ponder even buried the team with a mild insult.
“My 5-year old thinks Tampa Bay is called the “Butts” and tbh I don’t think I’m gonna correct him today,” Ponder said matter-of-factly.
Purdy led four touchdown drives in the first half to take a 28-0 lead at halftime and the game was all but over. It was only the second time in Brady’s career he trailed by 28 points or more at halftime.
Purdy finished the game 16 of 21 for 185 yards. He threw two touchdowns against no interceptions and ran in a score.

Brady finished the game with 253 yards through the air, with one touchdown and a pair of picks.
The Bucs are just 6-7, but because the NFC South is really bad, they remain in first place.
