Last month, Baker Mayfield was a guest on Sports Talk 1400 when he was asked whether the Longhorns were back as Ehlinger said following the Longhorns’ win against Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl.
“His opinion on anything winning,” Mayfield said on SportsTalk 1400 last month. “Westlake’s a great program, but the two best quarterbacks to come out of there are Drew Brees and Nick Foles. Sam can stay down there in Texas. That’ll stir the pot. He doesn’t like me, and I hope he knows that I don’t like him either.”
At Big 12 Media Day, Ehlinger sat down with The RJ Young Show on the Sports Animal and responded back to the Cleveland Browns.
“Honestly,” Ehlinger said. “I don’t really pay attention to it. I think that blocking out the external noise is something that is more important to our program right now and more important for me. There’s hype. There’s hate.
“There’s a lot of different things, and the moment you start letting that infiltrate your mind and infiltrate your thoughts that when you start going down the wrong path. So being able to block that out is what I focus on.”
Despite being voted to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team and Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Ehlinger has also taken criticism from the likes of Super Bowl-winning quarterback Terry Bradshaw:

“I never understood why players would want to go and stack up, like Texas,” Bradshaw said. “One year, they signed three [five-star] quarterbacks. Two are now gone, and one is playing, and he ain’t that good.”
Not being very good and somehow still produced over 3,800 yards of total offense and 41 total touchdowns last season.
