Sam Darnold’s amazing run with the Vikings is over following a season of redemption in Minnesota.
Darnold helped the Vikings win 14 games in 2024, and they faced the Los Angeles Rams as the favorites on Monday night. However, he failed to get it going on the big stage.
The Rams’ defense played an excellent game and sacked him nine times while he threw 25/40 for just one touchdown. He was also responsible for a fumble that ended up as a Rams TD.
The QB was honest about his performances over the past few games after the heartbreaking loss.
“I clearly didn’t play good enough the last couple weeks. Just left too many throws out there that I would usually make. I’ve got to take better care of the football,” he said, per MPRnews.com.
The 27-year-old went into last night’s game having thrown for just 166 yards and zero scores in his previous outing.

Sam Darnold Should Attract Plenty Of Attention In Free Agency
Despite subpar performances over the last two weeks, Darnold had a remarkable season with the Vikings, which was the best of his career. He threw for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 INTs, which should leave him as a target for several teams as he’s set for free agency.
The Vikings will have first refusal on the player and have some big decisions to make as rookie J.J. McCarthy is expected to be back after spending 2024 sidelined with injury.
McCarthy would have likely been the starter for Minnesota after they selected him as the No. 10 overall pick last year following his national title-winning campaign with Michigan.
