The New Orleans Saints have used fan favorite and utility weapon Taysom Hill everywhere on offense since claiming him off waivers in 2017.
Hill has been a quarterback, a runner, a tight end and a wide receiver. He’s done just about everything the Saints have asked of him, but it looks Hill will be playing one specific position a lot more here in 2023.
Speaking to reporters after Thursday’s mandatory minicamp session, Hill revealed that he’s been practicing more as a wide receiver this year, per Brenna White of NFL.com:
“I think maybe doing more as, like, a receiver. I think that’s kind of stuff that hasn’t been explored a ton with me here. The throwing stuff as a quarterback or running, you know, that’s stuff we’ve been doing that for a long time, and that’s come really natural for me. I think running routes and catching balls and stuff that was a foreign thing for me, and I also think because of that we haven’t done a ton of it, and I think there’s some opportunities there that we just haven’t explored yet.
Hill had a career-high 575 rushing yards for the Saints last season to go along with seven rushing scores, the second-best mark of his career, to go along with nine receptions for 77 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
As a starting quarterback, Hill owns an impressive 7-2-0 record. He has completed 64.5 percent of his career pass attempts for 2,265 yards and 10 touchdowns against eight interceptions.

Free agent pickup Derek Carr will be the Saints’ starting quarterback in 2023, with Jameis Winston backing him up. Hill will surely get his fair share of reps from the QB position on short-yardage situations, but we shouldn’t be surprised if he gets most of his work in as a receiver in 2023.
