Starting safety Marcus Maye, the former Jets standout who signed a three-year, $22.5 million deal this spring, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, according to NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.
This marks the second time in two years that Maye has been arrested. The sixth-year veteran was previously involved in a car crash that resulted in DUI charges.
Eric Hessler, Maye’s attorney, sent out a statement, per Josina Anderson. The Saints safety “vehemently denies the allegations from a motor vehicle incident.”
Saints head coach Dennis Allen told reporters that the team was made aware of Maye’s arrest Thursday morning and is still gathering information.

“We’re really not going to have a comment on it at this time until we get more information,” Allen added.
Maye spent the first five years of his NFL career as a full-time starter for the Jets, who drafted him 39th overall in 2017.
Maye is the second Saints player to be facing criminal charges.
Star running back Alvin Kamara has been accused of felony battery for his role in an assault that occurred in Las Vegas.
Maye spent five seasons in New York, logging 312 tackles, 24 passes defensed, six interceptions, and 3.5 sacks in 60 starts.
