An NFL preseason fixture set for this weekend could be affected by a hurricane.
The New Orleans Saints are scheduled to visit the SoFi Stadium for a game against the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday. However, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune’s Jeff Duncan, the league is keeping an eye on a potential natural disaster that could impact Southern California this weekend.
The hurricane, named Hilary, could be the first to make landfall in the region in 84 years, having developed into a Category 4, and could cause flooding and other damage from San Diego to Las Vegas if it does hit.
“Heavy rainfall in association with Hilary is expected to impact the Southwestern United States through next Wednesday, peaking on Sunday and Monday,” the National Weather Service said, per the Associated Press.
The game could be called off even if the SoFi Stadium avoids being hit as the area is still likely to experience inclement weather.
The players could also take it upon themselves to sit the game out if the NFL opts to go ahead as they could have concerns about slippery conditions.
