Cincinnati Bengals fans likely had plans of traveling really deep for their second round matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Well, the host team of the divisional-round playoff game want to make sure Bengals fans can’t swarm the stadium on Saturday.
They did so by changing their ticket transfer policy just in time for the game. Brooke Ellenberger, Vice President of Ticketing for the Titans, explained why the rules are getting changed, per Chris Davis of News Channel 5:
“We want Nissan Stadium to be two tone blue. And so by limiting this transfer window, it also limits the number of visiting team fans that we’ll have in the stadium. By limiting that transfer time would limit some of the resale and some of that transfer activity that would happen in advance.”
Under the new rules, tickets can’t be transferred to someone else until 24 hours before kickoff. Since a potential buyer won’t have tickets in hand until late Friday afternoon at the earliest, that makes it harder for opposing fans to plan their weekend.
No team wants their home stadium in a playoff game to be swarmed with enemy fans, which would make it extremely hard for the home team. The Rams know that all too well when 49ers fans took over SoFi Stadium earlier this month.
Ryan Tannehill’s wife absolutely loved this idea. She took to Instagram on Thursday and shared a Sports Illustrated story about the news calling it “incredible,” according to the New York Post.
Odds are either way, Bengals fans will be out in force in Nashville. They just experienced their first playoff victory in 31 years, so with ticket or without, Bengals fans will be in the city.
