It’s been a rough 2023 season for Ryan Tannehill. The Tennessee Titans quarterback was largely ineffective during six games and then he got hurt and was sidelined by an injury and has seemingly fallen out of favor after the team benched him in favor of rookie Will Levis.
Things appeared to get really bad when a Twitter account posing as an ESPN reporter named Jeff Simon tweeted that Tannehill had requested a release from the team. Unfortunately, a lot of people believed it.
The news quickly made the rounds across NFL media to the point where Tannehill was asked about it.
“I was kind of caught off guard by those reports as well,” Tannehill told reporters. “Obviously I have a desire to play, but I just don’t know what that looks like at this point.”
Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel named Levis the team’s starting quarterback on Nov. 7th and Tannehill is listed as the co-backup with Malik Willis.
Tannehill has been less than stellar so far this season, even before being sidelined due to injury. In six games this season, Tannehill has 1,128 passing yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions.

For Levis, he has 699 passing yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in three starts. Levis burst onto the scene with 238 passing yards for four touchdowns in his NFL debut to lead the Titans past the Atlanta Falcons. he does not have a thrown touchdown pass since that game.
It’s unclear whether Tannehill might take over as Tennessee’s starting QB again if Levis continues to struggle.
