A blockbuster trade proposal has the Tennessee Titans sending Ryan Tannehill to a quarterback-needy AFC rival.
The Titans already made one big move ahead of the trade deadline, sending All-Pro safety Kevin Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles. Many expect the Titans to also deal Tannehill and star running back Derrick Henry, who are both playing on expiring contract.
One team that could use Tannehill? The surprising 4-2 Cleveland Browns, who have questions at quarterback with starter Deshaun Watson nursing a shoulder injury. Though the Browns have won both contests with backup P.J. Walker at the helm, they’ll surely need a more proven insurance option if Watson misses significant time.
Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr proposed a blockbuster trade that has Tennessee sending the 2019 Comeback Player of the Year to Cleveland in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round draft choice:
“I know Tannehill isn’t an upgrade, but would it be foolish for Cleveland, especially with Watson’s shoulder issue, not to look at the quarterback market? Again, everything hinges on the team’s pivot to competitiveness this year, and, while you still have to maintain a sense of pragmatism, there’s nothing wrong with supporting Watson and bolstering the offense with a quarterback who can win you games.
(Howie) Roseman, in Philadelphia, has been instructive in humbling himself via transactions. He spent a lot of high picks on receivers, then after none of them panned out, he spent some more and made trades. Cleveland made the god-awful decision to bring Watson aboard out of sheer desperation. Wouldn’t the only thing worse be doubling down on Watson and not buttressing the depth chart?”
The 35-year-old Tannehill has struggled in Tennessee’s first six games, completing 62 percent of pass attempts for just 1,128 yards and two touchdowns against six interceptions. Tennessee has dropped three of its last four games, and a loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday will put a significant dent in their playoff hopes.

But a change of scenery could be exactly what Tannehill needs at this phase of his career. Playing behind a stout offensive line with playmakers Amari Cooper, Jerome Ford, Donovan Peoples-Jones and Elijah Moore at his disposal just might help Tannehill rebuild his value ahead of 2024 free agency.
