Former NFL QB Ryan Leaf is sharing some major insight into what happened to Russell Wilson during his first year with the Denver Broncos. We all saw it in real-time as the veteran QB looked like a shell of himself on the field and it made for a terrible year for a team that was considered a Super Bowl contender.
The public beatdown of Wilson eventually led to the turnover of the coaching staff and the trade for Sean Payton.
According to Ryan Leaf, his struggles on the field were a direct result of one of his closest friends, Trevor Moawad, tragically passing away.
Wilson finished the season completing only 60.5% of his passes for 3,524 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
The Broncos finished 5-12 after coming into the campaign with playoff hopes.
The Seahawks traded Wilson to Denver before last season. The quarterback had spent the first 10 seasons of his career in Seattle, reaching two Super Bowls and winning one. In September, Wilson agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Broncos worth $245 million.

The front office as well as the fan base have hope that Sean Payton can turn things around. Hopefully, Wilson will be mentally strong in his second campaign with the team.
