When it comes to terrible quarterbacks, many fans usually compare them to the likes of Ryan Leaf when trying to make a point.
Former NFL draft bust turned football analyst Ryan Leaf recently into a Twitter battle with a fan while responding to them referring to Zach Wilson as the ‘Mormon Ryan Leaf’ because of his play on the ifeld.
Appearing on Maggie and Perloff, Leaf made it clear that he absolutely hates hearing comparisons of him to other quarterbacks. He explained he was an “absolute dumpster fire” in every aspect from on-field play to off-field behavior and nobody is touching that feat quite yet.
Leaf also believes Wilson may have handled things the wrong way for him to be benched by the team.
“I’m sick and tired of people making comparisons to me and these young QBs who haven’t gotten a chance yet. I was an absolute dumpster fire… Jets fans, it’s going to be all about HOW he deals with it because I dealt with it the most toxic way you can…” Leaf said.
The former No. 2 overall pick of the then-San Diego Chargers knows what it is like to be heavily scrutinized in the media for playing poorly and he would advise that other players do not go that same route. Leaf went from being one of the top picks of the NFL Draft to being a bust after failing to perform well enough to stay on a team. He was in the same draft class as Peyton Manning, Randy Moss, Hines Ward and Charles Woodson.

Years after he was finishing playing, Leaf faced several legal issues but has become a wonderful comeback story of a person reinventing himself.
After he was released from prison in 2014, Leaf got his life back on track and has since taken the steps to get into broadcasting.
As far as Zach Wilson, he has more than enough time to get things back on track, but it will have to start with his attitude and taking accountability for the things he does on the field.
