Former San Diego Chargers’ and Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Ryan Leafs has social media talking after showing his remarkable body transformation in a Twitter video.
A muscular Leaf shared a video of himself performing chest flies on a machine. Leaf added that he’s now down to218 pounds and a body fat percentage of 7.5. For what it’s worth, Pro Football Reference had him listed at 245 pounds during his playing career, while NFL.com had him at 235 pounds.
Leaf is widely regarded as the biggest draft bust in NFL history. In 1998, he and Peyton Manning were widely regarded as two can’t-miss quarterback prospects who would immediately change the fortunes of whichever franchises landed them.
The Indianapolis Colts took Manning first overall, and Leaf went second to the Chargers.
Unfortunately, Leaf’s playing career was nothing close to Manning’s. The latter retired in 2016 as a five-time MVP, two-time Super Bowl champion as well as the all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns (Drew Brees and Tom Brady have since surpassed Manning).
Leaf’s work ethic and attitude quickly became too much for the Chargers, who cut him after three years (he missed the entire 1999 season with a shoulder injury). He tried reviving his career with Dallas in 2001, but to no avail.

Leaf was out of the league soon after. He endured several legal troubles and struggled with addiction following his playing career. Leaf is now sober and works as a motivational speaker to help those who’ve also endured addiction issues and mental health struggles.
