Last night during Thursday Night Football, the Las Vegas Raiders played to not lose instead of keeping their foot on the pedal and destroying the Los Angeels Rams like they should have.
A season of painful defeats for the Las Vegas Raiders got worse as the team who lost to a team whose coach was an ESPN analyst six days earlier made things even worse by allowing the opposing quarterback to direct two touchdown drives in the final four minutes after being picked up on waivers two days before the game.
With a little over three minutes left and sporting a 13-point lead, the Raiders blew yet another double-digit lead in this season and took a huge shot to their playoff chances in the process. Mayfield said on Amazon’s postgame coverage that he couldn’t believe the Raiders were in press coverage with 15 seconds left and the Rams needing a touchdown to win.
“To be honest with you, I was completely shocked that they lined up in press coverage with 15 seconds,” he said. “I really thought they were gonna try to pop out and play zone but they just stayed with it. Saw the weakside safety stay down and Van’s a great go-ball runner, go up and get it and he won off the line and did a good job.”
Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick jumped in and casually destroyed the Raiders while Mayfield laughed.
The Raiders scored on their first three drives to take a 13-3 lead before they decided to stop playing to win. On its final six possessions, Las Vegas could only muster a field goal while turning the ball over twice and went three-and-out three times.

While Indianapolis’ 25-20 victory on Nov. 13 in Jeff Saturday’s coaching debut was shocking, Baker Mayfield leading an eight play, 98-yard drive was imply depressing.
Carr was 11 of 20 for 137 yards and two interceptions. Davante Adams had only three catches for 71 yards against the Rams, with none coming in the second half.
The Raiders are now 5-8.
