It appears that former NFL star Ryan Clark is set to leave ESPN.
Clark, a Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been one of the most popular personalities at The Worldwide Leader in Sports for the past several years and has appeared on most of the network’s shows. But he’s posted a video to social media which suggests his time there could be over.
The 44-year-old revealed that his contract is about to expire while he’s preparing himself to do other things, having noted that they disagreed over what he should be paid from his next deal.
“3 years ago I signed an extension with ESPN. I was so grateful for more time. I excited to prove I was worth more, felt I deserved more. We disagreed, & that’s ok,” he wrote. “I set out on a mission to leave no doubt, end all conversations about my who I was in this business. I added [The Pivot]. Can’t wait for our second season of [Inside the NFL]!
“I knew it would take effort. I knew that effort didn’t promise results, but I dug in. Here we are now. The season is over. The deal is up. Time to make a decision. Either way it goes. The mission don’t change. I want to be the best doing it. Everyone should. I’m more motivated today than ever. I’m still the same #UndraftedFreeAgent!”
Clark will likely have his pick of the market once he officially becomes a free agent given that he is one of the most articulate and knowledgeable analysts in the business.
His time on television has seen him tackle issues outside of sports, with his voice just as appreciated when it comes to racial and social injustice.
