Russell Wilson is done in Denver. That became apparent when the Broncos elected to bench him for the remainder of the season, with two games left.
Wilson’s time with the Broncos certainly did not go as planned as they failed to make the playoffs in both of his campaigns under center. However, he has been tipped to move to one of the most intriguing teams in the NFL.
ESPN has spoken to various league executives this week, with Russell’s future among the topics discussed. One exec predicted that the quarterback would end up with the Las Vegas Raiders.
“[The Raiders] need a vet, and they are one of Wilson’s original teams he wanted to go to,” they explained. “He’d stay in the [AFC West], West Coast, and [Wilson’s wife] Ciara can do a [Las Vegas] residency [as a live performer].”
The Raiders turned out to be one of the most exciting teams in the league after Antonio Pierce took over as interim head coach when Josh McDaniels got fired last year. He has since been named the full-time coach and it will be interesting to see how the Raiders fare under his leadership for a full season.
While they picked up form after Pierce’s appointment, the team still had difficulty in the quarterback position. Perhaps Russ can have one last shot at resurrecting his career playing under the highly inspirational Pierce.
