Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is reported to have asked the Seattle Seahawks to fire head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider last year, per The Athletic.
According to the publication, Wilson went full Kevin Durant on the team, urging them to fire the aforementioned as he felt they were in his way of winning more Super Bowls and other individual accolades.
The Athletic cites anonymous league sources who were unable to go into deep detail, but they did note that the player was keen on having Sean Payton hired. Payton had just stepped down as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints at the time.
Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler who was the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2020, is reported to have presented the request to the Seahawks last February. The team decided to trade him shortly after.
The 34-year-old spent the 2022/23 season in Denver, where he had a horrible campaign on a personal front. However, he’s gotten his wish as Payton was hired by the Broncos this year.
