This upcoming 2023 season is shaping up to be one of the biggest and most important in the career of Russell Wilson. The veteran quarterback is coming off the worst season in his career right after he signed a 5 year, $242,588,236 contract with the Denver Broncos in the offseason.
According to former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum, a quarterback change will certainly happen during this season.
During this Friday’s edition of “Get Up” on ESPN, Tannenbaum said, “I would be shocked if Russell Wilson was the starter for 17 games this season.”
Tannenbaum believes Broncos head coach Sean Payton won’t hesitate to put him on the bench for poor play.
“I know the way Sean thinks,” Tannenbaum added. “I’m just telling you, if Russell Wilson has the smallest bump in the road, he will be benched.”
This offseason, Jarrett Stidham agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Denver Broncos. Stidham signed as a free agent with the Raiders last offseason and started the team’s final two games this year following the benching of Derek Carr.

In his two starts, Stidham threw for a combined 656 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions, with a completion rate of 63.9%.
In Denver, he is the backup for quarterback Russell Wilson under new head coach Sean Payton and he could easily see himself starting a few games if Wilson doesn’t deliver.
Broncos fans certainly hope Wilson can turn things around in 2023 given how much he is being paid.
NFL fans will get their first look at Payton’s new Broncos on September 10th when Denver hosts the Las Vegas Raiders.
