Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has “liked” multiple tweets that question the team’s decision to bench him for the remainder of the season.
In a stunning move, the Broncos have decided to bench the nine-time Pro Bowler for its final two games in favor of Jarrett Stidham. Because the Broncos would owe Wilson $37 million in guaranteed money for 2025 if he suffered an injury, many believe that the reason to bench him is strictly financially motivated.
On Twitter/X, Wilson has “liked” several tweets criticizing the Broncos for the questionable decision.

One can understand why the Broncos are doing this from a financial standpoint, but it’s fair to question the move at the same time. The nine-time Pro Bowler has displayed remarkable improvement under head coach Sean Payton this year, completing 66.4 percent of his pass attempts for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.
Considering how much the Broncos gave up to acquire Wilson via trade with the Seattle Seahawks, it certainly feels premature to already be considering a QB change.
Wilson had the Broncos in postseason contention in the second half of 2023 before a heartbreaking home loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday. So one wouldn’t be able to fully blame the Broncos if they opted to run it back with Wilson in 2024.
Not that it feels likely at this point.
