Very little has gone right for Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos in 2022, but the nine-time Pro Bowler is trying to stay positive amid a trying year.
The Broncos were widely expected to emerge as Super Bowl contenders after acquiring Wilson in an offseason trade with the Seattle Seahawks. But the offense has been a disaster through seven weeks, and it’s the key reason why the Broncos sit 2-5 heading into Week 8.
On Thursday, the always-positive Wilson posted an inspirational message on Twitter.
But of course, much of football Twitter wasn’t having any of it.

The Broncos started out 2-1, although they only put up 27 points over the two victories. The offense has only topped 16 points one season, and even that came in a 32-23 Week 4 road loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Wilson missed the Broncos’ Week 7 home game against the New York Jets with a hamstring injury, forcing the team to start Brett Rypien. The Broncos lost a defensive affair 16-0 to fall to 2-5 on the season.
The Broncos gave up a giant package to land Wilson from Seattle, including two first-rounders, defensive lineman Shelby Harris and standout tight end Noah Fant (the team’s 2019 first-round pick). Before the season started, Wilson signed a five-year contract extension worth $245 million.
Through his first six games, Wilson has completed 58.6 percent of pass attempts for 1,442 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. Geno Smith, Wilson’s former backup in Seattle,
, is having a career year with a 73.5 completion percentage for 1,712 yards and 11 touchdowns against only three interceptions.
Wilson and the Broncos are playing the Jacksonville Jaguars inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England this Sunday. After that, the struggling Broncos will get a much-needed bye week before they visit the Tennessee Titans in Week 10.
