The Broncos still have a slight chance of earning a postseason berth, but that did not stop them from making a drastic decision today.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that the Broncos are benching Russell Wilson for the final two games of the regular season as Jarrett Stidham will make his first start for the Broncos this Sunday against the Chargers.
One key reason behind the switch is financial as Wilson has a $37 million injury guarantee for 2025 that becomes fully guaranteed in March.
NFL fans took to social media and reacted to the shocking decision:

Wilson had recently sidestepped questions about his future in Denver beyond 2023. He has certainly improved on his erratic 2022 Broncos debut, as he has 26 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a 98.0 passer rating which are his best numbers in three years.
However, the Broncos offense struggled as they rank No. 16 in scoring and No. 25 in yards per game. Wilson is currently signed through 2028, but he’s only guaranteed money through 2024.
The Broncos lost any realistic shot at making the playoffs by falling to the Patriots on Sunday, giving them a 7-8 record.
