The Philadelphia Eagles have announced the release of a running back following their win over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night.
The reigning NFC champions are 2-0 to start the season despite needing to hit several gears in 2023. And, judging from the looks of things, a return to the Super Bowl remains a huge possibility.
Should Philly make it back to the final hurdle at the end of the season, it will be without RB Trey Sermon, who they released from the injured reserve this Friday, as well as linebacker Rashaan Evans.
The Eagles starred in the RB department on Thursday as D’Andre Swift had a career night, making 28 carries for 175 rushing yards and a touchdown on 6.2 yards per carry. They’ve since opted to let one of their backs go.
Sermon was drafted out of the third round by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021 after playing for Oklahoma and Ohio State. He appeared in nine games that year, ending his rookie campaign with 41 carries for 167 yards and a TD.
The 24-year-old featured in two games for Philly last season, making a pair of carries for 19 yards.
