There are rumors tying Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel to Ohio State, but one of his top players in Music City isn’t here for it.
To be clear: There is nothing concrete about Vrabel potentially leaving the Titans for the Buckeyes. The speculation only began to take off after Joe Rexrode of The Athletic wrote a piece suggesting that the Buckeyes offer him the head coaching position.
There’s also no indication that the Buckeyes are planning to move on from head coach Ryan Day. Many are just acting as though the sky is falling because they lost a pivotal home game to the rival Michigan Wolverines last week.
Like countless Titans fans, star offensive tackle Taylor Lewan doesn’t want to imagine the idea of Vrabel leaving Music City for the Buckeyes.
In February, the Titans announced that they had given contract extensions to Vrabel and general manager Jon Robinson. And considering his success with the organization up to this point, Vrabel would be taking a calculated risk by leaving his current position.
Vrabel, who won three Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots in the 2000s, played college football at Ohio State and commenced his coaching career there. He served as their linebackers coach in 2011 and later as the defensive line coach from 2012 to 2013.

Vrabel then joined the Houston Texans’ coaching staff in 2014, and he was promoted to the defensive coordinator position in 2017. After one year there, the Titans hired him to replace Mike Mularkey as head coach.
The Titans have yet to suffer a losing season under Vrabel, and they’re on their way to a third straight AFC South division title. They’re sitting comfortably at 7-4 with a road showdown against the NFL team’s top team, the Philadelphia Eagles, on the schedule this Sunday.
With Vrabel about to lead Tennessee to a seventh straight winning season (they had winning recods under Mularkey in 2016 and 2017), Titans fans can only hope that the speculation of him going to Ohio State is just that — speculation.
