The 2024 NFL Draft could feature several surprises at quarterback, according to an NFL insider.
Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado reports that folks around the NFL are “definitely higher” on Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy than fans and media. Allbright noted that some view the 2023 national champion as a top-10 pick.
On the flip side, Allbright noted that the league is “lower on” Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. than the fans and media. Many project Nix and Penix Jr. to be to be first-round picks, but Allbright reports that the league views them as day two or three picks.
USC’s Caleb Williams is widely expected to go first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, whether the Chicago Bears keep the pick or trade it to the highest bidder. North Carolina’s Drake Maye is the consensus No. 2 QB in this class, so he feel likes a safe bet to go either second overall to the Washington Commanders or third to the New England Patriots.
LSU star and 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels is the consensus third-best quarterback for 2024. Williams, Maye and Daniels are sure to go off the board early, but it’ll especially be interesting to see where the next tier (Penix Jr., McCarthy, Nix, etc.) of QBs land.
