If there’s one position the New York Giants desperately need to upgrade this offseason, it’s at wide receiver.
The Giants haven’t had a 1,000-yard receiver since 2018, when Odell Beckham Jr. tallied 1,052 despite missing four games. Fortunately for Big Blue, there should be a plethora of big-named receivers available in free agency.
Anthony Rivardo of Empire Sports Media looked at three potential free agent targets for the Giants in 2024 free agency. One person on that list? Indianapolis Colts superstar Michael Pittman Jr., who’s coming off a career year with 109 receptions and 1,152 yards:
“Michael Pittman Jr. is expected to be one of the top wide receivers on the market this offseason. The second-round draft pick from 2020 has developed into a premier outside wide receiver through his first four career seasons with the Indianapolis Colts but could be playing for a new team in 2024.
A thousand-yard receiver in two of his four seasons, Pittman would give the Giants’ offense the presence of a No. 1 receiver. With career-highs in 2023 with 109 receptions and 1,152 receiving yards, Pittman also added four touchdowns and turned in the best season of his career. Signing the 6-foot-4, 223-pound wideout would be a splash for Big Blue.”
Darius Slayton finished as the Giants’ leading receiver in 2023 with 770 yards on 50 catches. Second-year wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson led the team with 60 catches, but he had just 525 yards and one touchdown.
The Giants clearly need to upgrade the supporting cast for their starting quarterback in 2024, be it Daniel Jones or somebody else. And a two-time 1,000-yard receiver like the 26-year-old Pittman would go a long way in helping improve the New York offense.
