All season long, the New England Patriots seemed to struggle on the offensive side of the ball, even though the team kept winning games, but that’s primarily due to a stout defense. It caught up to them in Week 17 and the Wild Card round of the playoffs that led to an early exit at the hands of the Tennessee Titans.
All of that could be fixed with an addition of one dynamic player.
CBS Sports’ Will Brinson is predicting Odell Beckham Jr. will be heading to Foxborough to join Bill Belichick and the Patriots this spring via trade.
“So we’ll spice things up by having the Patriots deal their first-round pick to Cleveland for none other than Odell Beckham Jr. No one can say the deal for Odell from the Giants worked out well for the Browns. A first-year coach got fired. A second-year GM got fired. Baker Mayfield took huge steps back.”
Greg A. Bedard of Boston Sports Journal recently published what he called a “realistic” projection of the Patriots’ 53-man roster for 2020, and he also included Odell. He claims that the Browns are “much more likely” to trade Beckham now that they are focusing on a more analytics-based approach.
It remains unclear if Belichick would be willing to part with the No. 23 overall pick and pay Beckham $14 million per year.
Odell’s first season with the Browns was a dud as the team dismissed head coach Freddie Kitchens and franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield regressed badly after a stellar rookie campaign.
