A trade rumor regarding Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers reportedly isn’t true.
On Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Carolina Panthers have contacted the Packers about a potential trade for Rodgers. The 39-year-old completed a “Darkness Retreat” last week and will make an announcement on his football future soon.
But in an update, Panthers beat writer Sheena Quick reports that the Panthers “have not” spoken to Green Bay regarding a trade for their star quarterback.
Last year, Rodgers signed a three-year contract extension worth $150.8 million. This came less than a year after he reportedly sought a trade from the organization, so it appeared as though both sides managed to smooth things over.
But the Packers missed the playoffs in 2022, finishing with a disappointing 8-9 record after losing a must-win at home to the Detroit Lions in Week 18. Rodgers hasn’t committed to playing football in 2023, and even if he does, there’s no guarantee that he’ll return to the Packers.

Green Bay management and the four-time MVP could very well decide that now’s the time to split up. This isn’t unprecedented territory for the Packers, either. They went through this 15 years ago with another franchise legend in Brett Favre, who kept going back and forth on retirement.
For now, we just have to wait and stay patient with Rodgers’ announcement. It’s either retirement, a return to Green Bay or a trade. Stay tuned.
