An interesting NFC team has been brought up as a possible landing spot for Bill Belichick, should the New England Patriots decide to fire the legendary head coach.
The Patriots have lost seven of their first nine games and look poised to finish with their worst record under Belichick, who took over as head coach in 2020. With the Pats headed for a third losing and non-playoff season in four years, many speculate that owner Robert Kraft will end up firing the most accomplished head coach in NFL history.
JoeBucsFan.com staffers and Ira Kaufman brought up the idea of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pursuing Belichick during a recent episode of Kaufman’s podcast (h/t Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk).
On the podcast, they brought up several interesting points: Tampa GM Jason Licht previously worked with Belichick in New England, that Licht and Pats OC Bill O’Brien share the same agent and that Bucs ownership has always been high on landing marquee head coaches.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported last month that Belichick and the Patriots agreed to a massive extension in the offseason. But in a results-oriented business, Kraft might not hesitate to make a coaching change if the Pats continue to unravel.

If Belichick and the Patriots part ways, there certainly wouldn’t be a shortage of teams interested in his services. Some clubs might even be willing to fire their head coach strictly to land the 71-year-old.
For now, Belichick’s focus is on getting his team ready for Sunday’s Week 10 contest against the Indianapolis Colts.
