Willie McGinest woke up on Tuesday ready to get the rumor mill going quickly.
While the deadline looms, Willie McGinest — a former player of the Patriots and current analyst on NFL Network — spoke about a crazy trade of New England acquiring Michael Thomas.
“How about Michael Thomas from the New Orleans Saints goes to New England?” McGinest said on NFL Total Access. “You know about these big types of trades they’ve had. Reggie Wayne went there. Remember Chad Johnson? Remember a guy by the name of Corey Dillon? Randy Moss?”
Thomas, who set the NFL receptions record in 2019, hasn’t suited up for the New Orleans Saints since Week 1 due to injury.
Thomas comes with baggage as he was disciplined by the Saints after fighting with teammate C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Even still, this is the same team that took on Antonio Brown last year, even though it only lasted eleven days.
Another issue is his massive contract. The 27-year-old wide receiver signed a five-year, $96.25 million extension with the Saints in 2019 and still has $84.75 million in cap hits remaining on his current deal.
Whether Thomas gets dealt by New Orleans ahead of the trade deadline remains to be seen.
