Last Wednesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Jay-Z announced a partnership between the league and the legendary rapper’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, that would be part entertainment as well as activism. It would involve the NFL’s “Inspire Change” campaign, which will promote criminal justice reform and better police-community relations.
Jay-Z has been receiving a bunch of backlash for his decision to partner with a league that is still currently blackballing Colin Kaepernick from the NFL after he spent the majority of the 2016 kneeling during the National Anthem to bring attention to police brutality and social inequality.
There was also some indication that the hip hop mogul might be part of an ownership group of a team, but no word was announced as to which one.
A big rumor surfaced on Monday that the team might be the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“Shawn “Jay Z” Carter will be the largest percentage African American owner a football team owner, MTO News has learned. The 49 year old billionaire is in the midst of purchasing approximately a 5% interest in the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And the greatest rapper is paying a steep price for that ownership. MTO News has learned that Jay is paying somewhere between $100 and $200M for the interest in the team.
According to a person close to the situation, Jay Z has already gone through the vetting process, and the other NFL owners gave him the thumbs up. So the deal is all but done.”
Only time will tell if this rumor proves true.
