An ESPN analyst thinks a surprise AFC contender could be a landing spot for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott if he hits free agency in 2025.
Dak Prescott is entering the final season of a four-year, $160 million extension he signed with Dallas in 2021. With training camp approaching, it’s certainly interesting that Jerry Jones has yet to secure his star quarterback on a long-term deal.
If Prescott enters free agency, there will be no shortage of teams interested. Could an annual playoff contender over in the AFC be a player for Prescott? ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler thinks it’s a possibility.
Speaking on the latest episode of “This Is Football”, Fowler opined that the Pittsburgh Steelers could target Dak Prescott in 2024 free agency:
“I’m thinking of Pittsburgh. Russell Wilson…he’s on a one-year, $1 million minimum deal, right? And Justin Fields doesn’t have his fifth-year option picked up. Maybe he’s (Dak Prescott) a long-term answer.”

The Steelers won 10 games and qualified for the postseason in 2023 despite using three quarterbacks in Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky.
Pickett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, and Rudolph signed with the Tennessee Titans. Trubisky was released before returning to the Buffalo Bills, where he’ll back up Josh Allen.
Pittsburgh signed Russell Wilson to a one-year deal worth the veteran’s minimum following his release from the Denver Broncos.Justin Fields was acquired via trade with the Chicago Bears in exchange for a late-round pick.
If Pittsburgh’s quarterback reshuffling doesn’t work in 2024, don’t be surprised if GM Omar Khan eyes a big-name player like Prescott next year.
Dak Prescott Makes Sense For Steelers If Wilson & Fields Don’t Pan Out
The Steelers haven’t had quality quarterback play since 2018, the last season of a fully healthy Ben Roethlisberger. And yet, the organization hasn’t had a single losing season in that period.
This team is one above-average quarterback away from competing for a Super Bowl. So if Wilson and Fields both fail to pan out, the Steelers should definitely target the Pro Bowl signal-caller in an effort to get over the hump.
