A former Pro Bowl signal-caller and Comeback Player of the Year Award winner has been mentioned as a possible offseason target for the New England Patriots.
The Patriots are expected to move on from 2021 first-round pick Mac Jones, who had a miserable 2023 season that culminated in him getting benched in favor of Bailey Zappe. With Jerod Mayo succeeding Bill Belichick as the Patriots’ head coach, the team promises to look a lot more different next year.
Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler analyzed possible landing spots for Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, a pending free agent. Fowler mentioned the Patriots as a potential destination for the 35-year-old:
“The Patriots could take a new face of the franchise with the No. 3 overall pick. But if they opt to go to the veteran route or eye Tannehill as a wily vet with some spot-start ability, this could be a nice landing spot.”
Many expect the Patriots to use the No. 3 pick on a quarterback in April’s NFL Draft. But if the Patriots want time to groom and develop a young signal-caller, then it definitely makes sense to bring in a bridge option like Tannehill.
As we saw with the Cleveland Browns and Joe Flacco this year, it never hurts to have a highly experienced veteran on your roster as an insurance policy.
