Months before the Raiders would take their team and move them from Oakland to Las Vegas — there were heavy rumors that Derek Carr would never play another down for the franchise, even rumors saying that Tom Brady would be on the way.
Brady never came and Carr played as the starting QB this past season. Carr completed over 67-percent of his throws, for 4,103 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Not a bad season, but the Raiders finished the year 8-8 and missed the playoffs for a 4th-straight season.
According to NFL insider Adam Caplan, some around the league are anticipating that Carr has a new deal coming.
“[Derek] Carr may end up getting his contract extended. That’s the belief around the league,” Caplan reported on Saturday. “They do not want to trade [Carr]. I can tell you that is a fact.”
A new deal would give the Raiders much-needed cap relief for at least the 2021 season since Carr still has two years left on his deal and carries a cap number of $22.125 million in 2021 and $19.877 million in 2022.
