There is speculation going around that the Cleveland Browns will pursue one of the top free agent wide receivers in 2024 NFL free agency.
If they end up hitting the open market, of course, this year’s free agent wide receiver class will include Tee Higgins (Cincinnati Bengals), Mike Evans (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Michael Pittman Jr. (Indianapolis Colts), Calvin Ridley (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Marquise Brown (Arizona Cardinals).
In recent days, the Browns have been linked to another standout WR and pending free agent in Gabe Davis of the Buffalo Bills.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com mentioned Davis as a possible target for the Browns. New Cleveland offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey worked with Davis in Buffalo from 2022 to 2023 before his firing mid-season:
“There are other more affordable ones such as the Bills’ Gabe Davis, who has a market value of about $13.622 million a year. Davis, who spent the past four seasons with Dorsey in Buffalo, caught 45 passes for 746 yards and seven TDs in 2023, the exact kind of production the Browns can use from an additional receiver.”
The Browns’ top pass-catcher is perennial 1,000-yard wideout Amari Cooper, but they do have a pressing need for a capable No. 2 WR. Davis, renowned for his clutch postseason performances, had 45 receptions for 746 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

His best season came in 2022, when Davis hauled in 48 receptions for 836 yards and seven touchdowns. The 24-year-old Davis has six career touchdown receptions in seven postseason games.
Davis never quite emerged as the star No. 2 WR that the Bills needed to complement Stefon Diggs, but a fresh start could help him reach a Pro Bowl level. And given their need for more receiving help, the Browns make total sense as a landing spot for Davis.
