The Dallas Cowboys are likely to make Dak Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history this offseason and could make one of their wide receivers a cap casualty as a result.
According to uSTADIUM, there’s been some talk around the NFL Scouting Combine claiming Michael Gallup could soon become available.
The wideout can leave Dallas by way of either trade or release, but it’s understood that the team is still deliberating over what they should do.
Gallup always seemed a nailed-on cert for a money-saving release, and the Cowboys could save $9.5 million in cap space if he’s designated as a post-June 1 cut. However, they also have the option of reducing his salary.
The player’s future seemed extremely bright before he sustained an ACL injury two years ago; he hasn’t been the same since. Gallup is coming off the worst season of his career, with Prescott completing his best ever, which isn’t a good look.
While he used to be one of the NFL’s best catchers under pressure, Gallup’s injury problems have reduced him to a player who ranked close to the bottom of the pile when it came to separation rate last season.

Still, the Cowboys could end up sticking with him. We’ll just have to wait and see.
