Could the Atlanta Falcons actually be in the market for a new QB going forward?
That seems to be the thinking of Ian Rapoport of NFL Network who stated the franchise could quite possibly trade up and select a QB somewhere in the teens. (Meaning 13-19 range.) He also mentioned Thomas Dimitroff being “strangely interested” in QBs.
Since blowing a 28-3 lead in Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots, the team has missed the postseason twice in 3 years, and that includes back-to-back records of 7-9. Now things just got even worse with Tom Brady in the NFC South and making it that much harder to secure a playoff spot.
Matt Ryan, who is 34-years-old, threw for 4,466 yards and 26 touchdown passes last season. While his play remains solid, he would be hard for the team to move on from him, considering he carries a cap hit in 2020 of just less than $19 million, and it doesn’t dip below $36.6 million between 2021-23.
He’ll be 38-years-old by the time his contract expires.
