Matt Stafford is getting set to play for another NFL franchise besides the Detroit Lions for the first time in his career.
Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated recently reported that the San Francisco 49ers have the “inside edge” to acquire the veteran quarterback from the Detroit Lions, according to a “source extremely close to the situation.”
“As teams line up to trade for Matthew Stafford, a source extremely close to the situation said that while nothing is done or close to being finalized, the San Francisco 49ers seem to have the inside edge to land Stafford in a trade with the Detroit Lions,” reports Cohn.
The insider did not state what it would take for that trade to happen, but it would most likely have to be the No. 12 overall pick.
San Francisco is built to win right now, and would most certainly give Stafford his best chance at actually getting further in the playoffs.
The 32-year-old veteran quarterback is coming off a 2020 season that saw him complete 64.2% of his passes for 4,084 yards and 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
