How about this for a curveball.
While there is still one final game to be played in the 2018 NFL season, there is already some speculation surrounding exactly who will play in the 2019 Thursday Night Opener. And surprisingly enough, it doesn’t include any of the two teams that will be taking place in Super Bowl LIII later on this evening.
According to some around the NFL, it is believed that the 2019 NFL opener will actually be a battle between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers, in honor of the league’s 100th anniversary.
This actually makes too much sense not to happen. Not only is this the most storied rivalry in NFL history, but both teams are expected to enter the 2019 season as contenders, and they have been known to team up for some pretty epic contests.
So if the NFL wants to do something a little different next year and leave the Super Bowl champ out of their opening night matchup, I’m all for it.
