The Dallas Cowboys have released a notable name from their roster.
According to Patrik Walker of the Cowboys’ official team website, the Cowboys released two-time Super Bowl champion and running back Ronald Jones, who had just finished serving his two-game suspension.
Jones was handed a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s PEDs policy. The team signed Jones as part of their RB depth chart shake-up which saw them release two-time rushing champion Ezekiel Elliott.
Tony Pollard is the Cowboys’ lead running back, recording 140 yards on the ground and two touchdowns through the club’s first two games. 25-year-old Rico Dowdle and rookie Deuce Vaughn have also gotten some touches (a combined 22) in the ground game.
Jones had his best season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in 2020, recording 978 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. He lost his starting job to Leonard Fournette in the postseason, however, and wound up joining the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 free agency.
Though he saw very limited playing time in Kansas City last season, Jones earned a second Super Bowl ring when the club defeated the Philadelphia Eagles.

Coming off a 30-10 blowout win over the New York Jets, the Cowboys will try to improve to 3-0 on the season when they visit the 0-2 Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
